Open Enrollment for the Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) Plus + Globe Life Medical Plan is here! Open Enrollment is your opportunity to enroll or make changes to your coverage for the upcoming plan year, July 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026. Once Open Enrollment closes, changes can only be made if you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) such as marriage, birth, or loss of other coverage.
🔄Passive Enrollment: If you are currently enrolled and take no action, your existing coverage will roll over into the new plan year.
✅ No benefit plan design or rate changes for the upcoming plan year.

State Affordable Care Act (ACA) Mandates
Enrolling in the MEC Plus plan satisfies state Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) requirements for employees residing in California, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, and Rhode Island. Learn more about CA’s minimum essential coverage.
Monthly premiums
This plan is direct billed, meaning premiums are not deducted from your paycheck. Premium payments will be automatically deducted via ACH on or around the 25th of each month. Payments are processed by PIOPAC, a third-party benefits administration platform.

- Employee + Spouse: $259.00
- Employee + Child(ren): $245.00
- Family: $386.00
Why a Short Plan Year
National University is transitioning to a calendar-year benefits plan cycle beginning January 1, 2027. This six-month plan year bridges the transition.
Next Open Enrollment: If you do not enroll/make changes during this open enrollment, your next opportunity to enroll/make changes will be this fall for benefits effective January 1, 2027 - December 31, 2027.
Who can enroll
- Eligible Employees: All part-time faculty and staff and their eligible dependents.
- Eligible dependents: Child(ren) under age 26, spouse, and registered domestic partner.
Please note: You must enroll yourself in order to enroll dependents.
How to Enroll
Enrollment is completed through Benefit Harbor, a third-party enrollment platform. You must use your personal email address to enroll.

After Enrollment Submission:
You will receive ID cards within 7-10 business days of submitting your enrollment. You can also access digital ID cards via Loomis at loomisco.com

It’s that time of year to review your benefits and make any updates for the upcoming plan year, July 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026. This Open Enrollment will cover a short plan year as we transition to a January – December cycle starting January 1, 2027, to align with the calendar year.

- Review your benefit elections.
- Make your selections in Workday from May 4 – May 15, 2026.
- Re-enroll in Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) if you want to participate.
New Benefit Plan Year Checklist
Review the checklist below to help you prepare for the new Benefit Plan Year effective July 1, 2026.
- Check your pay statement in Workday: Confirm that your benefit deductions for the new plan year are correct. To review your benefits, log into Workday: Menu → Personal → MyHub → Benefits & Pay Hub. National University employees can log into Workday via the SSO Chiclet.
- Watch for New ID cards: If you made changes to your benefits during Open Enrollment, you may receive new insurance cards. If you do not receive ID cards by 7/15/2026, please contact askhr@nu.edu.
- Set up your User Accounts: Register with each carrier’s website or mobile app to manage your benefits digitally. Carrier links are available on the Benefits Resource Site.
- Stay Informed: Continue checking the monthly HR Remote newsletter for important benefits & wellness updates, reminders, and upcoming events.

Open Enrollment for Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) Medical Plan
June 2 - June 13
Part-time faculty and staff can now enroll in the MEC Plus + Globe Life medical plan, a cost-effective option that provides preventive care, nationwide PPO network, telemedicine, and more.
